New Industry Standard for Fuel Tanks published
10. November 2015Since October 14, 2015 draft version of a new industry standard for the fuel tanks in motor vehicles has been published. At this time the new standard has not yet been released and therefore it does not have a specific version number. Only plastic fuel tanks will be affected by the new standard, metal fuel tanks will be excluded.
The draft version of the new standard addresses the technical characteristics and testing procedures for M and N1 fuel tanks of motor vehicles. Hybrid vehicle fuel tanks are excluded.
The Chinese National Standard (GB Standard) regulates the safety of fuel tanks for motor vehicles, the QC standard is a specific industry standard that refers to functionality testing. GB Standard; GB 18296 and GB 18352.5, form regulatory framework for the QC standard.
The QC standard also includes technical requirements for plastic fuel tanks. One requirement mentioned, refers to a requirement for a safety release valve on fuel tanks with a volume of more than 95 liters. Tap capacity and tank fatigue are also covered.
