CCC: On-Market Random Sample Tests for Toys
23. September 2016In determining if CCC certification is required for a toy it is important to consider the minimum age for use. If the minimum age is 14 years or younger the toy will usually require CCC certification.
There are six categories for toys:
- Electric toys
- Plastic toys
- Metal toys
- Toys with projectiles
- Dolls and plush toys
- Ride-on vehicles
Strict safety and quality regulations are required for toys that are subject to CCC certification in China. The toys will be tested in China to make sure that they comply with internationally recognized quality and safety standards.
To insure quality and safety the certification authority conducts so called “On-Market-Testing” additionally to the usual product tests. This is where officials from the certification authority purchase toys at shops in China and conduct testing from the samples they purchase to make sure that they comply with the results of the original testing. The manufacturers are then notified of the results. This type of testing has been done for the last five years, with an increase in testing in 2016. It is seen as an effective, proven method of insuring consistent quality and safety standards with unbiased results.
The focus city of this year’s “On-Market-Testing” was Nanjing, with 50 toy samples being purchased at shops in the districts of Xuanwu, Qinhuai, Jianye and Qixia. There are no test results available at this time. It is expected that additional “On-Market-Testing” will be expanded across the rest of China in the coming months and years.
