BMW and Brilliance build third plant in China
6. November 2018Brilliance and the Munich-based company have been working together successfully for 15 years and have since set up a joint venture called BMW Brilliance Automotive (BBA) for this purpose. According to internal information, BMW also plans to increase its stake in BBA. This is made possible by a change in the law since this summer, which now allows western companies to own more than 50 percent of the company shares in a joint venture.
According to Chinese government information, the BBA joint venture is investing in the construction of another factory in Shenyang, northeast China. Details and an official statement from BMW have not been made public so far. Meanwhile, the production capacity of the two existing plants is expected to rise to 520,000 vehicles. Currently, several models of BMW are produced in China, including the popular SUV X3 and X5. Also planned is the production of a fully electric model of the BMW X3, which could then be exported from China to other markets. In addition, an electric car will be produced under the newly created Zinoro brand.
The People’s Republic continues to maintain its leading position as the largest car market in the world and for many manufacturers, including BMW, it is now also the largest single market in terms of sales of their vehicles. As a result, BWM and Brilliance already operate two production sites for passenger cars and one engine plant in China. Are you also producing in China or do you plan to export your products to China?
