New GB Standard for energy efficient Electric Motors – Application Guidelines

In Announcement No. 20 of 2023, the Chinese State Administration for Market Regulation (National Standardization Administration Committee) has endorsed 423 fresh recommended GB standards. One of these standards covers Application guidelines for the selection of energy efficient electric motors including variable speed applications. The Standard is GB/T 29326-2023, an update of its previous version GB/T 29326-2012. Depending on the technical specifications, many electrical motors require CCC certification for import and circulation in China.

Bestimmte Produktkategorien in China erfordern eine CCC-Zertifizierung. Vor dem Export nach China müssen die Produkte diese Zertifizierung erhalten, die das europäische CE-System bei der Standardisierung der Produktqualität widerspiegelt.

Technical Conditions of On-Board Hydrogen System for Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles

By the end of 2023, the China State Administration for Market Surveillance and Administration (SAC) has published and approved 468 new national standards, including a revision of GB standard GB/T 26990-2023 on Technical Conditions of On-Board Hydrogen System for Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles. The previous version GB/T 26990-2011 will be replaced and at the same time incorporate the old standard GB/T 29126-2012 Fuel cell electric vehicles – Onboard hydrogen system – Test methods. In order to be imported and sold in China, numerous electromobility products and components must be CCC-certified.

CCC certification is required in China for specific product categories. Before products can be exported to China, they must acquire a CCC certificate. This certification is analogous to the European CE system, which also standardizes product quality.

Updates to GB/T15579 Standard for Arc Welders

On April 1, 2024, newly updated versions of the GB Standard GB/T15579 came into effect that affect arc welding machines. The new standards are GB/T15579.5-2023 “Arc welding equipment – Part 5: Wire feeder” and GB/T15579.7-2023 “Arc welding equipment – Part 7: Welding torches (welding guns)”. These replace their previous versions with the year ending “-2013”.
Products in these categories can be CQC-certified to demonstrate compliance with Chinese product safety and quality regulations. For many products, this is mandatory in order to be approved for import and distribution on the Chinese market.

The most significant changes in the updates are as follows:

GB/T15579.5-2023:

a) The following scope of the standard has been deleted: “This part does not apply to wire feeders for use by non-specialists in IEC 60974-6” (Chapter 1 of the 2013 edition).

b) Deletion of terms and definitions such as extrusion area, welding wire, etc. (see Chapter 3 of the 2013 edition).

c) Requirements for pressure gauges have been added and accuracy requirements for electrical gauges have been changed (see 5.2, 5.2 of the 2013 edition).

d) The IEC 60529 test methods and conditions for enclosure protection have been added to the conformity test requirements for enclosure drainage (see 6.2.1).

e) Protection against electric shock: increased requirements for the contact current of the welding circuit and the contact current under general conditions (see Chapter 6).

f) Addition of non-routine operating requirements (see Chapter 10).

This document complies with IEC 60974-5:2019 “Arc welding equipment – Part 5: Wire feeder equipment”.

GB/T15579.7-2023:

a) “Scope” additions and clarifications (see Chapter 1).

(b) Addition of two new items and deletion of one item on “Terms and definitions” (see Chapter 3, Chapter 3 of the 2013 edition).

c) Deletion of one point regarding ambient air temperature range and change of one point regarding relative humidity (see Chapter 4, Chapter 4 of the 2013 edition).

d) Modification of the requirements for ambient temperature and accuracy of testing for electrical measuring instruments (see 6.1, 6.1 in the 2013 edition).

(e) Increase of the nominal voltage requirements for mechanically guided torches (guns) and burner coupling devices (see 7.1).

f) The requirements for arc strike and arc stabilization voltage have been deleted (see 7.3 in the 2013 edition).

g) Additional requirements for plasma torches (see 7.3.2).

h) Increased requirements for arc impact and arc stabilization voltages (see 7.5).

(i) Addition of regulations for mechanically guided burners (guns) and smoke extraction burners (guns) (see 8.1).

(j) Torches (pliers) for submerged arc welding have been added (see 8.3.5).

k) Exclusion of “weld-proof spatter” has been added (see Chapter 10).

l) Addition of requirements for the handle material under “mechanical protection” (see 11.3).

m) Requirements for smoke extraction burners (guns) have been added to the “Instruction manual” (see Chapter 13).

This document complies with IEC 60974-7:2019 Arc welding equipment – Part 7: Welding torches (pliers).

Both documents are under the control of the National Technical Committee for the Standardization of Electrofusion Machines (SAC/TC70).

CCAP Announces Changes to Requirements and Regulations for CCC Certificates and CCC Logos

In accordance with CNCA Announcement No. 2023-12, the decision of the TC11-2023-03 Technical Whole Vehicle Expert Group, and the decision of the TC12-2023-03 Technical Motorcycle Expert Group, on December 29, 2023, the China Certification Centre for Automotive Products (CCAP) announced the new design and format of the CCC certificate, as well as changes to the CCC logo implementation regulations.

The specific announcement reads as follows:

1. The content and form of the new CCC certificate have been revised.

2. The CCC certificate will be completely converted to electronic format.

In general, only an electronic version of the CCC certificate is issued. If the certificate is required in paper form, a separate application is required. The e-certificate and the paper certificate have the same legal effect. The standard format of the e-certificate is . OFD.

3. Translation of CCC certificates

By default, only the Chinese version of the e-certificate is issued. If required, CCAP can also provide translation documents in other languages (the English version by default). However, the translated document has no legal effect and cannot be used alone.

4. Implementing provisions

From 1 January 2024, CCAP will issue the CCC certificates in a new version.  Valid paper certificates and e-certificates in PDF format that have already been issued can still be used. These certificates should be naturally converted to the new format as soon as possible by amendment, expiry and/or renewal.

CCAP will print the new version of the CCC logo and issue it to the certificate holder in accordance with the rules for retroactive encoding. The manufacturer of the certified product acquires the CCC logo of the CCAP standard specifications with a valid CCC certificate (or CCC SD).

New GB Standard for Low-Voltage Switchgear

As of the end of 2023, the Chinese State Administration for Market Surveillance and Administration (SAC) has published and approved a total of 468 new national standards. These also include an update of the regulations for low-voltage switchgear – Part 1: General principles. The underlying GB standard is known as GB/T 14048.1-2012. Many electronic products and components must  obtain CCC certification in China  in order to be imported and distributed.

CCC certification is mandatory in China for certain product categories. Products to be exported to China must first obtain a CCC certificate. This certificate is similar to the European CE system, which also serves to standardize the quality of the products.
