Chip developer from Shanghai expands into the automotive market

Shanghai Fudan Microelectronics (Fudan Micro) plans to produce microcontrollers (MCUs) for the automotive industry in the near future. The announcement underlines the expansion plans of the company, which is traded on the Shanghai STAR stock exchange. With Fudan University as its largest shareholder, Fudan Micro has sold more than 500 million microcontrollers to date, rising to the No. 1 spot in the domestic MCU market for industrial users. Electronic products and their components, such as microcontrollers, must be awarded a CCC certificate in order for the products to be exported to China or manufactured locally.

Fudan Micro said in an online press conference last August that the automotive industry is an emerging market with new trends such as autonomous driving and EVs. Both technologies use significantly more electronic components than previous conventional vehicles. The MCUs produced by Fudan Micro are installed in areas such as key transponders, air conditioning, steering and seat adjustment. The main customers for the 500 million MCUs sold to date come from industrial production, security technology and other sectors. According to Fudan Micro, the lifetime of a microcontroller is up to 16 years.

Update of GB/T 19056-2021 Standard for Tachographs

The CNCA has published an updated version of the GB Standard for tachographs. The new Standard GB/T 19056-2021 for car driving recorders will come into effect starting July 1, 2022. Specific test items have been adjusted.

The mandatory CCC Self-Declaration, also known as China Supplier Declaration of Conformity, serves as a declaration by the manufacturer that the manufactured products comply with the Chinese standards.

The relevant manufacturers are required to complete a CCC Self-Declaration in accordance with the following:

  1. If the Self-Declaration has not already been completed and is still in the process: The Self-Declaration can be declared in accordance with the new standard between the effective date of this resolution and June 30, 2022. Starting from July 1, 2022 onwards all new Tachograph Self-Declarations must be in accordance with the new version of the standard.
  2. Those Self-Declarations that have already been completed, must be updated to the new GB Standard between the effective date of the resolution and June 30, 2023. Type test reports should be performed in accordance with the new test items.
  3. Any Self-Declarations that are still in accordance with the old GB standard GB/T 19056 but not with the new one will be cancelled by July 1, 2023.

Additionally, the Tachographs will implement a unique code to achieve traceability of the production, sales and usage.

Note: This resolution is implemented from March 1, 2022. You can find a list of the test items further below.

JD figures show higher demand for imported fruits and fresh produce

Fresh produce supplier JD Fresh, an offshoot of e-commerce giant JD, plans to import more cherries from Chile as well as fresh produce from other countries into China in the future. The trading company cites rising consumer demand as well as a greater willingness to spend more money on high-quality imported food as the reason. To this end, JD Fresh has signed contracts with the four largest Chilean exporters for the supply of high-quality cherries from the South American country. Among Chinese consumers, cherries are one of the most popular imported foods. Currently, China is the world’s largest market for cherries from Chile. About 92 percent of all exported cherries go to China, according to the Chilean ambassador to China, Luis Schmidt Montes. Many food products must go through GACC registration before they can enter the Chinese market.

He also said that Chile is the first South American country to plan its own virtual pavilion with JD. The online sales space will offer around 30 different food products from Chile, including wine, salmon, olive oil, honey, fruit puree, seafood and fresh fruits such as cherries. JD Fresh aims to import more than 1.8 million 5-kilogram boxes of Chilean cherries via direct purchase during 2022. JD expects the retail value to exceed US$157 million. Thanks to a seamless supply chain and direct purchasing in Chile, JD expects the process to go smoothly. At the end of November 2021, JD’s sales of cherries increased by 200 per cent year-on-year, and in 2020 sales reached the equivalent of 78 million US dollars.

The rising popularity of high-quality imported fruits is attributed to rising incomes as well as growing health awareness among the Chinese population. In the period from January to October 2021, the value of fruits imported into China was 12 billion US dollars. This represents a year-on-year increase of 33.5 per cent, reports the China Chamber of Commerce for Food Import and Export. JD will continue its efforts to import fresh premium products into China through direct purchasing and its own supply chain, said Zhou Xiazhou, head of purchasing for fruits and vegetables at JD Fresh. He cited cherries from Chile, durian and black tiger shrimp from Thailand and salmon from Norway as examples. In light of the Covid 19 pandemic, JD Fresh has also tightened its controls. Incoming goods can be tracked seamlessly via a QR code, and warehouses are regularly checked for Covid 19 pathogens and thoroughly cleaned and disinfected.

The General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China (GACC), which is the headquarters of Chinese customs, is responsible for Chinese food certifications. The import of food into China is subject to a variety of food certifications. Some are mandatory, while others are voluntary. There are also some food products that, in addition to registration with the GACC, also require approval with the SAMR (State Administration for Market Regulation). The way a product is marketed also influences which food approval is required or useful in China. In principle, all imported foodstuffs require registration. Which form of registration is required depends mainly on the type of food you want to export to China, because regulations distinguish between two different types: subject to recommendation and subject to registration. MPR China Certification GmbH offers you a complete service package for GACC registration in which you are optimally supported. You will be assigned a personal contact person who will be available at all times to answer any questions you may have regarding the registration of foodstuffs in China.

New Standard GB 15084 for Mirrors Planned

The Chinese authority AQSIQ (General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine) are planning an update of the GB standard GB 15084 for car rear-view mirrors.

The new standard is expected to come into effect on January 1st, 2023.

Since the new version is still being finalized, it is currently unclear what the changes will be.

AQSIQ is the authority responsible for issuing new GB standards. They revise existing standards in regularly to ensure that the contents match current technical developments.

CCC certifications will continue to be carried out according to the current version until the new GB standard is implemented. Currently, CCC Self-Declaration is mandatory for mirrors. Additionally, many OEMs also require voluntary CQC or CCAP certification with product tests.

Although it is still unclear what the final changes the authority is planning, a recent draft describes possible modifications. The changes included some updated technical requirements, especially regarding camera monitoring systems (CMS). Among others, the draft lists the functional requirements that camera monitoring systems must fulfill. To prove compliance, products must be tested according to ISO 16505:2019. In addition, the brightness of camera monitors must be manually or automatically adjustable.

As soon as more information is available, you will find it here on our website.

Several other revisions of standards are currently in progress, including the standard for brake hoses (GB 16897). The authority also recently published a new standard for seat belt detection (GBT 24551-2021).
